I agree that Underground 1 were not as boring as 2 because even though the race tracks were pretty much repetitive, you'll jump right onto the race where as in Underground 2, you had to travel between places to get to the races, and it's becoming a chore when you unlocked more areas

In no where in that forum post (funny that you link a forum post) does it states that Need For Speed 2015 is Underground 3 or Underground 2's spiritual successor. Facts. I like it more as well. The progress in nicely paced and the handling is just really good imo. Nicely direct and kind of on rails to better nail the racing line and be fast. Ug2 wasn't the first open world racer. The first open world racing game was Turbo Esprit that released back in 1986.

So many years have passed and EA still don't know how to release such a jewel like that. On the contrast, while Underground 2 has more customization features in general there are a few smaller things it lacks. All vinyls from Underground 1 do not return and are replaced with new ones.
