Got the new battery and put it on charge. Removed the front air intake to make it easier to work in the space, which is really easy, just 1 bolt. Disconnected the + terminal, realised looking carefully that the front of the battery cover needs to be pulled upwards strongly and then slid out from the back to remove it.

Did a bit of investigating and suspected that the push pin on the bonnet switch wasn't being deprerssed far enough. (Far enought to break circuiot but not reliably). The switch is very sensitive and only requires light pressure to break circuit. The switch does not appear to be adjustable for height.

I am now on my 3rd one. What I think happens is that the relay coils protection circuit is destroyed by the back emf from the coil and then the relay does not switch over which discharges the battery. The actual relay is fine or at least it was on the one I cut open. Diagnostics should throw up the fault code for a non working relay on it. 82fAtkz.
