Ihave test driven a 159 today and I do like it compared to the competition (a4, 320d). I'm considering jumping in an buying a second hand (2006/07) 159 1.9 JTD saloon. But would like to get advice to quantify the truth of the rumours that alfas are unreliable. Justbought a non running 2007 159 1.9 16v. Apparently it was running rough for about a week then refused to start. Non swirl flap model so that’s ruled out. Turned it over by hand felt a few compression strokes felt fine then it locked up. Got the cam carrier off now and she spins over by hand

Iknow i should have tested alot more 159's to get a feel for the car, but i wasn't able. stupid me!! car is 159 JTDM 1.9 lusso 16v, 08 plate 109000 miles, full service history, cambelt changed 77000, last service 103000, mot done last week. Your views and most probably opinions on my stupidity will be appreciated.

I was buying it with a guy who knows about cars more than me and it was really smooth and trouble free a year ago. Now it's ongoing expensive repair.
